TEST OF RUSSIAN AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

What is TORFL?

TORFL is a system of examinations that assesses proficiency in Russian as a foreign language. The exam is available at six levels, from A1 to C2.

LEVELS

From A1 to C2

Choose a level based on your current skills and the purpose of the exam. An assessment before preparation can help.

Basic communication in everyday situations.

Communication in standard everyday and social situations.

Independent communication, study and most everyday tasks.

Confident communication, complex texts and detailed argumentation.

Fluent Russian for academic and professional settings.

Language proficiency close to that of an educated native speaker.

STRUCTURE

Each subtest assesses a separate group of language skills. Candidates must successfully complete all parts to receive a certificate.

Tests knowledge of vocabulary, word forms and grammatical structures.

Tests comprehension of different types of written texts.

Tests the ability to understand spoken Russian.

Tests the ability to produce written texts for a given task.

Tests spoken Russian and the ability to take part in communication.

HOW THE EXAM WORKS

Choose a level and register. The candidate selects a suitable level and provides the required information and documents in advance.

Complete five subtests. Written and oral parts are administered according to the rules for the chosen level.

Results are assessed. Exam papers and recordings are evaluated by certified examiners.

Receive a certificate. Successful candidates receive an official certificate.
